What’s good, family! Welcome back to the KYW thread. Y’all really reacted well and seemed to have a lot of thoughts on the sustainability piece earlier this week. So I wanted to open the floor.
What are some of the areas you all see these footwear brands going wrong in? And what would you like to see them doing better? And furthermore, is there a brand you look at where you say “yeah, they’re doing things the right way,”?
For me, I think EVERY footwear brand should have some sort of buyback program where they’ll take back old sneakers and either refurbish them or recycle them.
All sneakerheads should know about https://soles4souls.org/ - we used to have them out Sneakers and Speakers so you could donate instead of just be part of the resell game.
As for what I'd like to see, it feels like tons of brands are taking strides to make sure everything is more environmentally friendly, however, I care more about the human element when it comes to sustainability and that's not what brands out touting with their products. I don't want my shoes or athletic wear to destroy the environment, but I also don't want it destroying the people that make them either. To be truly sustainable you have to look at all facets and the human element is one of those. There are some very complicated economics at play when it comes to where they produce their goods but they have the power to force change there and they should be doing that or producing their goods elsewhere, where they know people are taken care of.
There is no ethical buying, if y'all actually cared you wouldn't be buying a sneakers made in sweat shops that are known to fall apart after a few year, which every brand in the world does. if y'all wanna make a change don't buy new stuff. it's not complicated

I wonder are the recycled materials used actually post-consumer? Or they more scraps in the factory from making fresh shoes?
