What’s going on, family! Back again with another quick KYW thread. Today was a pretty eventful day on this here sneaker internet, huh?
Joe FreshGoods successfully shock dropped the New Balance 90/60 on Instagram. On Monday, lots of us were mad about the IG shop errors that came with the initial attempt. Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly with the drop today, though. At least on my end.
I’m going to touch on IG as a release platform and why it makes sense in Friday’s newsletter, but I’d like to know your thoughts on how things went.
Did you hit? Or did you take the L? And, regardless, how do we feel about Instagram being used as a sales platform for sneakers? I honestly think it’s pretty brilliant.
I missed the drop. I didn’t the notification, but I’m not upset about it. It looks like a good amount of people got to cop, and that’s always a good thing. IG shop is an interesting approach, provided that all of the kinks are worked out so that the first attempt doesn’t happen again.
Always keeping that positive energy bruv. Appreciate that.
That's my attitude, too. People were able to manually cop without issues or big botting troubles. That's a big W. I just wonder how long it lasts before the jig is up.
I'll let you know how it went after I find out whether they're gonna let me change my shipping address 😭😭😭 and if you see Shop Pay around, tell them I have some not-so-nice words for them
I was late on the initial drop so didn’t deal with whatever issues came with that. Today was the easiest I’ve ever bought kicks. Couple clicks and I had confirmation. So I love it. I’m sure the boys will get it figured out eventually and ruin the good thing JFG has going but for now it’s pretty solid
It reminds me of the shock drops I used to hit on SNKRS too: OW Carolina 1's, Travis Highs & Lows, etc. But we all know what happened after that. The "notifications on" strategy only works for so long.
Same shit different shovel. Got the notification (great heads up Sykes) and jumped on it. Interface crashed per the usual sneaker shopping experience. Personally, I'm getting really tired of this song and dance. Kudos to them for trying to find better ways to release the kicks. but still......
I’m in the U.K. so couldn’t cop but they weren’t for me anyway. Glad for everyone who managed the W though! Question is - IG as a platform showed they could get it right on the second drop, so why did it fuck up so badly the first time?
It was encouraging that they got it right the second time but I feel like so many people did all the right things and just ended up unrewarded for it. And that does stink. Happy about the Ws tho
I know IG, starting with having Eva Chen on their team, really saw the future across building a shopping platform within the site, so to see this system not just go well but give a LOT of Ws to people is promising!!
Apparently, this was the biggest shopping drop in the history of IG per Layla Amjadi on IG. That's pretty encouraging news that it had this much hype and they were able to eventually handle it 😂
I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth the process went. If they can keep this up there is potential for IG to make some moves from a transactional standpoint.
Hit on the initial drop, was kinda shocked and figured it was an error and my order would get canceled, but I got the confirmation a bit later. Seemed pretty smooth this time, but I wasn’t on Monday when everything went sideways

They better! God dammit.
Good for me. I didn’t how much my cell service was gonna slow down getting through checkout. But copped on the first restock 🔥
How we feeling this morning / evening? Anyone wanna revise their comments? 😬
😂 just finished editing for tomorrow AM over here. I'll save what I have to say for that.

Glad you got em! That's also my concern, too. This went well, relatively speaking. But how long before the bot brigade catches on?

Yeah! That's my worry fr. I'm like how long does this work before the well runs dry.
New Balance isn’t for me (unless it’s Numeric 🛹) so I didn’t miss out.

I get that. Totally. It's super frustrating to have to jump through hoops and hurdles for something as simple as sneakers. It can be too much

Apparently the traffic was insane. Head of Product Management at Meta said this was the biggest drop in the platform's history.

took a fat L but would love more IG drops. Wasn’t the smoothest way to do things but felt like there was more hope here than on a finishline or SNKRS
