I heard from somebody who would definitely know that there were people cheering in the Nike office when they saw the email that Donahoe was stepping down.

Nice company morale you made there, Donahoe. Don’t expect too many flowers in mid-October from the rank and file.

The bar is extremely low for Hill coming in! Definitely interested in seeing how these next six months go at Nike.

I still believe in Nike. They have all the top athletes (especially NBA players), and, to me, their shoes and gear are more comfortable than the competitors. Square take, I know.

I don't think that's square at all! I think it's honestly the correct take. As far as it's fallen these last few years, the brand is still top of the class.

It's interesting you flag On and Hoka here in the running sector but in watching runners at the DC half this weekend, the sheer amount of Vaporflys I saw was staggering. To your point, I think causal runners have definitely graviated towards those other brands, but Nike is still the top dog when it comes to race day. Wonder how or if the new leadership will captalize on this.

You're exactly right. Nike still has the top of the line stuff the best runners will seek out. Folks running a half marathon will be seeking out whatever gives them an edge.

But for folks casually participating or just catching the bug, the other brands have swooped in and taken a bit of that space.

I know people might be coming around to him but still think your original take on the 1906's was right. Those things are uuuuuugggggllllyyyyy. Just can't get on board with it.

Shared this in a Twitter thread -- always love hearing your analysis on big happenings like the Donahoe change.
